Bataille: Winner of Meggendorfer Prize
Graphic artist, illustrator and paper engineer Marion Bataille created the ABC3D book — a pop-up alphabet that evolves as you flip through each letter. Bataille won the Meggendorfer pop-up prize in 2010 for ABC3D. Bataille said that technically the most difficult letter to produce was the "Z." And the easiest — the "A," according to an interview with the French website livresanimes.com.

Lothar Meggendorfer (1847-1925) was a German writer, illustrator and paper engineer. He became famous for witty, innovative pop-ups using rivets and pull tabs to make images perform multiple actions at the same time. Above is a scene from Meggendorfer’s International Circus (1887). Meggendorfer's work is celebrated in the book "The Genius of Lothar Meggendorfer."
